Grove City takes 2nd at conference championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Grove City College women’s track and field team earned second place at the 2019 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships, held Thursday and Friday at Grove City’s Robert E. Thorn Field. Grove City accumulated 120.5 team points in the two-day event. Waynesburg won the team title with 148.5 points. Westminster (118.5) finished third.

Junior Katlyn Adams (Warren, Pa./Warren) highlighted Friday’s session by earning the conference’s Field Most Valuable Player award. After winning the triple jump Thursday, Adams earned her second individual title of the Championships Friday by winning the long jump. Adams posted a best mark of 16 feet, 7 3/4 inches.

Senior Elizabeth Donahoe (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) led Grove City’s effort on the track by winning the 800 meters. Donahoe posted a victorious time of 2 minutes, 24.54 seconds.

Three Grove City athletes earned runner-up finishes Friday. Sophomore Abbey Collins (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) earned second place in the long jump by marking at 16-5. Sophomore Gretchen Elsey (Pulaski, Pa./West Middlesex) cleared 4-9 in the high jump to take second place while junior Rohanna Foote (Ardmore, Pa./Harriton) finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.10 seconds.

Adams, Foote, senior Tabitha White (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and sophomore Logan DeJonge (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) earned third in the 400-meter relay with a time of 51.71 seconds. Freshman Elaine Robertson (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver) placed third in the javelin with a top throw of 110-7 while sophomore Denali Hutzelmann (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) captured third in the 1500 (5:08.11).

Foote also finished fourth in the 200 meters (27.63) whie DeJonge placed fifth in the long jump (15-10 1/2). Freshman Jane Vannoy (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) earned fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:13.57). Vannoy, Donahoe, freshman Olivia Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and junior Madison McKivergan (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) combined for a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter relay (4:19.92).

Junior Madelyn Kimpel (Columbiana, Ohio/South Range) earned fifth in the steeplechase (12:23.42). Sophomore Karen Prem (Towson, Md./Towson) placed sixth in the 800 meters (2:28.15) while Vannoy earned seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 12:48.22. Senior Maggie Bauman (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) earned seventh in the 5000 meters (19:12.03) while White cleared 4-7 in the high jump to take seventh place.

White also finished eighth in the 100 meters (14.07). Senior Erin Logue (St. Petersburg, Pa./Allegheny-Clarion Valley) earned eighth in the javelin (94-4) while freshman Katie Carrasco (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) placed eighth in the shot put (33-6). Junior Heidi Hoffman (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) took eighth in the 1500 with a time of 5:18.28.

Grove City’s second-place finish is the best for the Wolverines since winning the 2015 conference title.
