Eisenhower track and field sweeps O-E
DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Eisenhower got its 2019 track and field season off to a flying start with a sweep at Otto-Eldred Thursday.
The boys defeated the Terrors, 81-69, while the girls ran away with a 110-39 win. Delaney Nizzi won four individual events for the girls, while Cyrus Hazeltine was a three time winner for the boys.
Nizzi took first in the 100 (18.0) and 300 (51.2) hurdles, the 100 (13.6) and the long jump (14’4″). The Lady Knights swept all three relay races. Caroline Smelko won the 3200 (12:47) and the pole vault (6’6″). Patricia Bortz (400), Aleea Giese (800), Lydia Giannini (shot put), Currie Hultman (discus), Emiley Wheeler (triple jump) and Alexi Milburn (high jump) also took home first place finishes.
For the boys, Hazeltine took first in the javelin (135 feet), long jump (17’81/2″) and high jump (5’2″). Nate Holt took first in the 300 hurdles (46.5) and 100 (11.7), and the boys won two of the three relays. The Knights dominated the field events, taking first in each and sweeping the high jump. Individual winners included Carter Knapp (shot put, high jump-tie with Hazeltine), Joey Bauer (discus), Jared Martone (triple jump) and Thomas Baran (pole vault).
The Knights head across county Tuesday to Youngsville and a showdown with the Eagles.
