Weather forces changes, playoff pictures clearing

Severe weather forced the Warren County School District, and others, to cancel school Tuesday and with that cancellation came another round of sports postponements.

All five events scheduled for Tuesday were either postponed, or cancelled outright.

Sheffield and Ridgway were set to meet on the hardwood for both boys and girls games, both games were postponed and will be made up today. The girls travel to Ridgway, while the boys host the Elkers. Both games have a junior varsity start time of 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.

Likewise, the Warren at Corry boys basketball game will be played today, again JV tips at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.

Fans of Eisenhower basketball will now be treated to a double header this evening at Eisenhower. The boys game against Youngsville, originally set for Tuesday, will open the night with tip-off set for 6 p.m. Senior Night festivities will be held at halftime. The Lady Knights host Titusville following the boys game, with their Senior Night activities to be held during pregame.

The Youngsville at Iroquois wrestling match was cancelled and will not be made up.

While the winter weather created some scheduling chaos, the postseason picture is starting to gain some clarity.

The District 10 Class 2A Section I tournament begins Friday and goes through Saturday. The tournament was moved from the Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie to Meadville High School. Both Youngsville and Eisenhower wrestlers will take part, and a larger preview will be published later this week.

Five Warren County basketball teams will enter the D-10 playoffs as well. First round boys games get underway Friday. Warren will host Fort LeBoeuf, while Youngsville’s opponent will be determined tonight. If the Eagles beat Eisenhower, they’ll go to a tiebreaker with Maplewood and Saegertown. A loss moves them to the sixth spot in Region 3 and a matchup with Region 2’s Wilmington. Tip-off times for both games will be announced later this week. The Tidioute Charter boys will have a semifinal game against Commodore Perry, Tuesday, Feb. 26 at a time and location to be announced.

Girls first round games tip-off Saturday and Eisenhower will head to Lakeview, tip-off time will be announced later this week. The Warren girls earned a first-round bye and will take on Meadville (advance via opt-out) in the quarterfinals Saturday, Feb. 23 at a time and location to be announced.
