Warren wrestlers hope to duplicate 2018 success at D-10 tournament
Warren’s Ryan Madigan looks to put Erie Cathedral Prep’s Jamale Crockett’s shoulders to the mat during their 126-pound match at Warren Area High School, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019. Madigan pinned Crockett in the third period.
Warren wrestlers begin their individual postseason journeys tonight.
The first step is the District 10 Class 3A Tournament at Meadville High School, with action getting underway at 5:15 p.m. for preliminary rounds, followed by the semifinals and consolation prelims.
The Parade of Champions starts at 7:30 p.m. with consolation finals and finals to follow.
Ryan Madigan (126) and Jamo Douvlos (170) earned the top seeds in their respective weight classes. Madigan was a district runner-up last year, while Douvlos finished fourth. Alex Anderson (132) was third a year ago and comes into this year’s tournament as the No. 3 seed. Avery Smith (120), Donovan Fiscus (138) and Joey Arnold (195) all finished fourth in 2018.
The Dragons advanced a program record 10 wrestlers on to regionals at last year’s D-10 Tournament, but only the top three wrestlers in each weight class move on this year (was previously the top four) since 3A is down to just five teams-Erie, Erie Cathedral Prep, McDowell, Meadville and Warren. General McLane now competes in 2A and Oil City entered into a co-op with Cranberry.
Here’s a look at each weight class.
