Warren picks up huge win over General McLane

EDINBORO, Pa. – This one meant a lot.

Behind 27 points from Margo Loutzenhiser and a career-high 26 from freshman Riley Childress, the Warren Lady Dragons went on the road and picked up a huge Region 6 win, 64-58 over General McLane.

The win for Warren (16-1 overall, 6-1 Region 6) all but assures them of a top seed in the District 10 Class 5A playoffs (Villa is 4A).

“Huge win,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan. “It was a lot of fun. We came out, took care of business and did what we needed to do.”

The hot starts that have become a recent trend continued, as the Dragons jumped out to a 10-0 lead, with that margin swelling to near 22-5 in the first half, despite Loutzenhiser picking up her second foul.

“I think it has a lot to do with confidence,” LaVan said of the quick starts. “They’re a confident group and come into every game ready to get after it.”

Defensively, Emma Ruhlman was once again a standout, as well as Teagan Paris. They helped limit McLane’s (12-5, 3-4) leading scorer, Sierra Seneta, to just 9 points.

“Teagan came off the bench and gave us some great minutes defensively, and Emma did a great job on defense of hedging and helping everyone out and getting through screens.”

Conversely, Childress shined on the offensive end.

“It was a perfect matchup for Riley,” LaVan said. “She drew a lot of the attention with Margo being double-teamed.”

Loutzenhiser’s 27 points now give her 1,422 for her career, third on the program’s all-time list and just 15 away from breaking Julie McChesney’s record of 1,436 set in 1992.

She also had seven rebounds, while Ruhlman led the team with 10.

Conversely, they limited McLane to just 11 offensive rebounds after allowing 21 in the first meeting.

Sara Pfeiffer led GM with 21 points, while Kendyl McKissock, fresh off a game-winning 3 in triple-overtime against Harbor Creek, had 20.

On Monday, Warren will attempt to avenge its only loss of the season when they host Villa.
