Warren boys fall at Ridgway

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Warren went toe-to-toe on the road with one of District 9’s premier programs on Monday, but Ridgway had just a little too much in a 53-43 win over the Dragons.

Warren led 11-8 after the first quarter, but the Elkers, an honorable mention team in Pennsylvania in Class 2A, went on a 14-4 run in the second quarter to take a 7-point lead into halftime.

“That got us behind,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine.

Ridgway (16-3), known for its suffocating defense, limited the Dragons to just 4-of-20 from 3-point range in the contest.

“That doomed us,” Berdine said.

Daunte Allegretto got hot for Ridgway, finishing with a game-high 16 points, while Matt Dish added 14.

Jake Kupchella had 12 points and two steals for the Dragons (8-9), while Caleb Ei had 11 points and six rebounds and Griffin Suppa eight points.

“Definitely need to get back in the gym and figure some things out,” Berdine said. “We need to spend some time in practice to work on some things. Offensively right now, we can’t seem to get the open shots to do down.”

Ridgway also won the JV game, 53-46. Berdine had 16 points and Ryan Arnold 15 for the Dragons, who return to action on Friday, hosting Fort LeBoeuf.
