Knights fall in quarterfinals at D-10 duals

SHARON, Pa. – Eisenhower’s dreams of making it to the PIAA team duals were derailed by Titusville on Saturday morning, 35-31 at Sharon High School.

The match was nip-and-tuck the whole way through, with the Rockets ultimately winning on Zach Rodgers’ pin at 106 to close out the match.

“We just didn’t get it done this weekend,” said Eisenhower coach Kris Black. “We started a little sluggish and just couldn’t really get a lot of momentum going. They wrestled hard, but we gave up just a little too much bonus in different places and lost a few of the toss-up matchups. The guys had a great effort, it just didn’t happen for us.”

The Jaquays, Logan and Gannon, received Eisenhower’s first two victories via forfeit before Alex Barnett earned a pin at 160.

Ethan Chambers earned a 5-3 decision over Levi Nosko at 170 and Jesse Gourley and Joey Bauer had a decision and major decision at 220 and 285 respectively, putting Eisenhower up 31-29.

Titusville went on to finish fourth, with Conneaut and Greenville earning the second and third bids to states from District 10 behind Reynolds, which had wins of 57-9, 84-0 and 64-18 to earn their seventh consecutive D-10 title.

“This team has a lot to be proud of,” Black said. “That’s two years in a row we’ve been in contention for a trip to states.”

Before the individual postseason begins, the Knights have one more match, and it’s an exciting one for area wrestling fans as they make the short trip to take on Warren on Tuesday.

“It should be a good match,” Black said. “You can take the records and throw them out the window. It should be a good event for wrestling fans in our area to watch two teams having decent years. Warren is looking forward to it and our kids our looking forward to it.

“Dean Johnson does a great job of coaching those guys. He’s a good guy and a good coach. I have so much respect for him and what he’s done.”

After that, it’s on to the individual postseason.

“We have a lot of guys wit
