Knight, Eagle wrestlers ready for Section I

Ethan Chambers and the Eisenhower Knights, as well as the Youngsville Eagle wrestlers, are set for the Section I Tournament.

The first step in the individual postseason is here for Eisenhower and Youngsville wrestlers.

Originally scheduled for the Prep-Villa Center, the Section I tournament was moved to Meadville High School, where action will get underway at 4:30 p.m. with prelims, followed by the quarterfinals and the consolation prelims.

Section I is made up of teams from Regions 3 and 4 – which include the Knights and Eagles, as well as Corry, Union City, Cambridge Springs, Saegertown, Maplewood, Cochranton, Fort LeBoeuf, Girard, General McLane, Harbor Creek, Iroquois, North East, Northwestern and Seneca.

Eisenhower’s Logan Jaquay and Joey Bauer look to defend their titles, while Garrett Head, Easton Hedman, Josh Bortz and Alex Barnett all look to advance, as they did last season.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class move on to districts.

Here’s a brief look at each weight class.

106: Top Seed – Jack Martinec (Cochranton) 18-1; Eisenhower: No. 11 Darren Glotz (4-4)

Glotz, a sophomore, will have a preliminary round match against Logan Gerow (18-11) of Cambridge Springs, with the winner to face No. 3 seed Logan Munsee of Corry.

113: Top Seed – Logan Jaquay (Eisenhower) 25-2;

Jauqay looks to defend his title at 113 and has a bye into the quarterfinals, where he will meet the winner of Andrew Przybycien (4-6) of Fort LeBoeuf and Quintin Hedderick (11-16) of Union City. Other challengers include Andrew Brest (28-4) of General McLane and Connor Pierce (22-2) of Corry

120: Top Seed – Ethan Herman (Girard) 19-9; Eisenhower: No. 14 Jake Williams (6-13); Youngsville: No. 7 Collin Clough (13-15)

Williams has a tough draw, opening with Saegertown’s Alex Kightlinger (25-11), while Clough draws Union City’s Jason Soliwada (5-7).

126: Top Seed – William Burgess (Union City) 22-2); Eisenhower: No. 7 Easton Hedman (11-14)

Hedman, a sophomore, draws Willis Morrell (9-12) of Cochranton. The winner will meet Jaeden Reagle (21-8) of Saegertown in the quarterfinals.

132: Top Seed – Tye Varndell (Cambridge Springs) 30-0; Eisenhower: No. 5 Gannon Jaquay (18-11)

Jaquay has had a solid freshman season, and he receives a bye to the quarterfinals, where he will take on Tallin Henry (22-7) of Union City. Varndell, an Edinboro commit, would potentially be lurking in the semifinals.

138: Top Seed – Kenny Kiser (Saegertown) 29-3: Eisenhower: No. 4 Josh Bortz (24-9)

The Eisenhower junior has had a stellar season, and he will meet Judah Gardner (17-7) of Union City in the quarterfinals, with the winner likely to square off against Kiser. Maplewood’s Brad Roae (8-2) is the No. 2 seed.

145: Top Seed – Owen Jefferson (Seneca) 20-2; Eisenhower: No. 6 Garrett Head (21-9); Youngsville: No. 10 Steven Reilly (0-19)

Head gets a first round matchup against Cochranton’s Kalob Brown (3-3) with the winner to meet No. 3 seed Marshall Martinez (21-6) of Girard in the quarterfinals. Caide Mooney (22-6) of Northwestern is the No. 2 seed.

152: Top Seed – Esteban Waldman (Union City) 16-4; Eisenhower: No. 10 Nate Holt (15-15); Youngsville: No. 14 Colton Garris (0-10)

Holt gets a first round match against Eli Mosconi (15-12) of Cambridge Springs, with the winner likely to see No. 2 seed Dylan Muscarella (North East, 25-7) in the quarterfinals.

160: Top Seed – Jason Bratt (Harbor Creek) 21-3; Eisenhower: No. 2 Alex Barnett (21-8); Youngsville: No. 12 Sawyer Lawson (0-12)

Barnett gets a bye to the quarterfinals, where he will meet the winner of Jackson Carico (Cambridge Springs, 14-15) and Eli Reed (McLane, 4-13).

170: Top Seed – Matt Petrilla (Corry) 23-8; Eisenhower: No. 5 Ethan Chambers (15-13); Youngsville: No. 11 Damon Reese (1-13)

Chambers gets a bye to the quarters, where he will meet James Laird (McLane, 20-13). The winner will most likely see Petrilla in the quarterfinals. Marshall VanTassel (Union City, 13-4) is the No. 2 seed.

182: Top Seed – Gavin Henry (Union City) 28-3; Eisenhower: No. 10 Tristen Wilcox (4-17)

Julian Gorring of Fort LeBoeuf, a defending PIAA runner-up and Appalachian State signee, was supposed to be the top seed hear, but was suspended after a well-documented incident involving two other teammates and will miss the postseason. Wilcox will face Jordan Miller (Cambridge Springs, 7-14) in the first round, with the winner to face J.D. McFadden of Maplewood.

195: Top Seed – Domonic Viscuso (Harbor Creek) 23-2; Eisenhower: No. 2 Cael Black (25-4); Youngsville: No. 8 Sam Hoover (7-14).

Black and Viscuso faced off recently, with an overtime victory for the senior Viscuso against the talented Ike freshman. Also lurking is No. 3 seed and fellow freshman Hayden Linkerhof of Corry. Hoover will meet Zack Dalton (Saegertown, 4-12) in the first round, with the winner to face Visuso. Black will face the winner of Dylan Lee (Northwestern, 13-12) and Ryan Graves (Girard, 2-13) in the quarterfinals.

220: Top Seed – Joey King (Maplewood) 27-3); Eisenhower: No. 2 Joey Bauer (23-5)

Bauer will face the winner of Ryen Phennicie (Seneca, 11-11) and Austin Kimmel (Saegertown, 5-15) in the quarterfinals. Dalton Boozer (Cochranton) is the No. 3 seed and Seth Yarger (GM) No. 4.

285: Top Seed – Matt Long (Union City) 26-4; Eisenhower: No. 4 Jesse Gourley (6-5); Youngsville: No. 6 Jake DeSimone (8-11).

Gourley receives a bye to the quarterfinals, where he will meet the winner of Hunter Dickson (GM, 12-12) and Lance McLaughlin (Fort LeBoeuf, 1-1). DeSimone gets a first round match against Steven Heme (Maplewood, 5-3), with the winner to face Jerry Mosconi (Cambridge Springs, 13-8).
