Champ! Jaquay nabs D-10 crown at 113, six Knights, DeSimone advance

Eisenhower’s Logan Jaquay captured the District 10 title at 113 pounds, beating General McLane’s Andrew Brest in the final. Jaquay is one of six Knights who qualified among the top eight for the Northwest Regional in Sharon.
SHARON, Pa. – It was sweet revenge for Eisenhower’s Logan Jaquay.
After dropping a decision to General McLane’s Andrew Brest in the Section I finals last week, the two met again, this time for the District 10 title at 113 pounds.
Jaquay got the best of Brest this time around, earning a 6-4 decision.
“It was nice to see Logan get that revenge,” said Eisenhower assistant Dennis Johnson.
He will be joined at Northwest Regionals by teammates Joey Bauer, Cael Black, Gannon Jaquay, Josh Bortz, and Alex Barnett – or the Jaquays and the Killer B’s as they are calling themselves.

Eisenhower’s Gannon Jaquay is one of six Knights that advanced from the D-10 Championships to the Northwest Regional.
The six to regionals are tied for the most Ike has advanced to that level.
Bauer, after earning a 9-3 decision over Reynolds’ Wyatt Owen to advance to the finals at 220, lost by major decision to Jacob McMaster of Greenville. McMaster hasn’t lost a match all season.
“That kid hadn’t wrestled a full match all tournament,” noted Johnson. “Joe got beat, but he wrestled hard.”
Black advanced to the semifinals at 195 before dropping a 3-1 decision to Titusville’s Parker Harvey. From there, he battled back, earning fifth-place by injury default.
“Cael’s right there,” Johnson said. “If he wrestles loose (at regionals) he has a really good shot of getting to states. He’s a 15-year old kid wrestling at 195 and doing extremely well.”
Bortz, meanwhile, advanced to the fifth-place bout at 138, where he was pinned by Justin Boozer of Cochranton.
“He has 30 wins now,” noted Johnson. “That’s more than his freshman and sophomore years put together. And he’s the ultimate team guy.”
The younger Jaquay also advanced to the fifth-place match at 132, dropping a major decision to Dawson Bartholomew of Saegertown.
“He’s just a scrapper,” Johnson said. “He’s improved so much.”
Barnett, meanwhile, bowed out via injury default in his seventh-place match.
“He has the flu, so we decided to medical default,” Johnson noted.
Conversely, Youngsville’s Jake DeSimone won his seven-place match via injury default at 285 and is also advancing to the Northwest Regional, which will also be at Sharon.
And for all the guys that pushed through, it’s a tough day for the seniors who came up just short.
“You hate to see careers end at this level,” Johnson said.
For those that are moving on, they obviously have one goal in mind now.
“We’re looking forward to going down and getting some guys to states,” Johnson said.
