Bulldogs play tough in loss to Jamestown; Eisenhower falls

The final score – Jamestown 76, Tidioute 47, doesn’t even begin to tell the story of Friday’s Region 1 battle.

After a big win by Jametown on its home floor in the first meeting, the two teams were tied at halftime, 28-28, and the Muskies (9-8 overall, 3-0 Region 1) led by just seven going into the fourth quarter.

“The score doesn’t tell you what the game was like at all,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman. “The third quarter wasn’t bad, we just had some opportunities we didn’t finish. The fourth quarter, we took some chances and they capitalized on it.”

In the first half, the Bulldogs (11-6, 2-1) executed their game plan to near-perfection.

Jared Veasey, who had another big game offensively, as well as Patrick Shields and Maison DeLoe did a good job of limiting Jamestown’s inside game (their frontcourt goes 6-6, 6-6, 6-3).

It certainly put the Muskies on notice that this was a much different game than the first meeting.

“The first half, we executed the way we wanted on defense,” Cotterman said. “We were playing a matchup zone and they were on it like crazy. We had some opportunities in the first half, we just couldn’t’ finish a few of them.”

Veasey led the way with 20 points and 6 rebounds, while Shields had 8 points and 7 rebounds and Deloe 9 points.

Dawson Urbansky led Jamestown with 21 points, while Austin Smith added 19.

With the win, Jamestown clinched the Region 1 title.

But Tidioute is hoping they meet one final time, which would potentially be for a District 10 championship.

“The effort was there and the kids executed the way we wanted to,” Cotterman said. “We just broke down a little bit by not getting back on the fast break. Hopefully, we see them again.”
