Board approves Sunday practices

Coaches in the Warren County School District now have the option to use the seventh day of the week, when needed and with permission.

School directors unanimously approved a revision to Policy 10450 that governs interscholastic athletics at Monday’s school board meeting. The action passed with seven members voting yes. Board members Mary Passinger and Michael Zamborik were absent.

There was no discussion of the policy from board members or the public.

The change to the policy now allows coaches to use Sunday as a day to practice, travel or take part in contests, with prior approval from Superintendent Amy Stewart or a central office designee.

The revised policy states that when a Monday contest is scheduled, varsity teams may practice, with prior permission, on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The practice must occur during these hours and cannot exceed two hours in duration. No other Sunday contests or practices are to be considered for approval.

Permission may also be granted in the event of special circumstances, according to the policy.

Any permission granted must be in compliance with applicable PIAA requirements.
