Tidioute girls beat Sheffield

Behind a monster game from Nakeisha Krouse, Tidioute picked up its second victory of the season, 52-31 over visiting Sheffield on Tuesday.

It was a slow start early for both teams, as Tidioute led 6-5 after the first quarter.

“Both teams were starving for a win and tonight we came out on top,” The shots were not falling the first half and the girls struggled to put the ball in the hoop,” said Tidioute coach Christy Valentine.

“Shelby Proctor had 6 of her 16 points in the second quarter and kept us together,” she added.

The third quarter was a different story, as Tidioute scored 23 points and took a 15-point lead.

“Coming out after half with only having a 3-point lead, the girls turned on the pressure full court and finally saw the points start to pour in,” Valentine said. “Nakiesha scored 16 points in the third quarter along with 4 more from Angelina ‘Boo’ Sabella as we pulled ahead going into the fourth with a 15 point lead. Critical rebounds by both Kelsey Nuttall and Krouse allowed us to slow up the ball and burn up clock to seal the victory.”

It was a welcome sight for the Lady Bulldogs for sure.

“I am proud of the girls for being patient during the fourth quarter and taking care of the ball better,” Valentine said.

Nakiesha Krouse had 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 6 steals. Angelina Sabella had 4 blocks, 4 steals, and 6 points. Shelby Proctor had a career-high 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

“She (Proctor) really stepped up tonight when we needed her!,” Valentine said.

Kelsey Nuttall was strong under the boards tonight with 11 rebounds – 8 of them defensive.

For Sheffield, Alyssa Dunham and Emily Leichtenberger had eight points each.

“We lost to a team that was determined to win,” said Sheffield coach Brandon Troutman. “They made plays, we didn’t. Hats off to coach Valentine and her kids, they played a heck of a game.

“We struggled to score again. We had plenty of chances, and we didn’t convert. Inside, outside, free throw line, we left a lot out there, and it’s unfortunate.”

The JV Lady Bulldogs won 21-9. Paige Zofcin had 8 points and Ruthie Scaife with 10 rebounds for the win.
