MEADVILLE, Pa. – Four.

That was the theme for the Eisenhower Knights on Day 1 of the prestigious Tool City Tournament on Friday at Meadville.

Four Knight wrestlers – Logan Jaquay (113), Easton Hedman (126), Alex Barnett (160) and Cael Black (195) advanced to the semifinals, while EHS currently sits in fourth place in the loaded 25-team field, which is celebrating it’s 40th year.

While they have a quartet moving on to the semifinals, the remaining Knights are all still alive in the consolation brackets.

Every single Eisenhower wrestler that had to compete in the Round of 32 – Josh Bortz (138), Garrett Head (145), Nate Holt (152), Ethan Chambers (170) and Black all won via pin, with the lone exception of Gannon Jaquay, who was dominant in his own right, earning a 10-1 major decision over Peyton Smay of Clearfield.

Jaquay, Hedman, Barnett, Black and Bortz all won in the Round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Jaquay pinned Clearfield’s Nolan Barr (3:19), Hedman earned a 4-2 decision over Maplewood’s Tucker Urey, Barnett tech falled Jacob Reisinger of Saegertown and Black claimed a hard-fought 4-2 win over Hagan Cook of Franklin.

Black was the lone Knight to win three times in order to get to the semifinals, pinning Zack Dalton of Saegertown in just 18 seconds in the Round of 32, followed by a 4-3 decision over Conner Walsh of Olean in the Round of 16.

Jaquay earned his Round of 16 victory via pin, while Barnett got a 6-3 decision over Fox Chapel’s Alex Wecht and Hedman a 8-3 decision against Chase Beck of Cambridge Springs.

Matt Ferraro of North Catholic got a 7-1 decision over Bortz in their 138-pound quarterfinal.

Action gets underway on Day 2 at 9 a.m. today.
