Ike girls battle against Saegertown
SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – A slow start might have been the only thing that prevented the Eisenhoewr Lady Knights from pulling off a Region 2 road victory on Monday against Saegertown.
EHS spotted the Lady Panthers a 17-6 lead first quarter, but outscored them in the second half in what was ultimately a 47-33 setback.
“We dug ourselves a little bit of a hole and got behind in the first quarter,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue. “We just didn’t seem like we were ready to play, and that’s on me.”
The Lady Knights (5-9 overall, 3-6 Region 2) cut the lead to 9 in the second quarter, only to watch Saegertown build it back up to 15, 31-16 at halftime.
They came out firing in the second half, however, thanks to the trio of Lydia Giannini, Delaney Chase and Emiley Wheeler.
Giannini had yet another double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and three steals, while Wheeler had 10 points and 8 rebounds and Chase 10 points, including a pair of 3’s. Lilee Renninger also had eight rebounds and Alexis Courtney four assists.
“We have two great captains in Giannini and Wheeler,” Logue said. “This team really cares about each other and plays hard for each other. They’re everything that a coach wants in a team. We just keep battling game after game. As young as we are, we’re going to break through one of these days.”
Saegertown (8-3, 6-3), was led by Carlie Schlosser’s game-high 21 points.
“I am very proud of this team,” Logue said. “They work hard and are committed to each other and the team.”
The Lady Knights look to keep their perfect record against Warren County schools intact when they host Youngsville on Friday.
