ERIE, Pa. – The Warren Dragon swimmers got back on the winning track Monday, sweeping the Erie High Royals, 92-72 on the girls side and 108-61 on the boys side.

“Everybody contributed,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “We’ve been swimming in a lot meter pools, and they have a little smaller pool, so I think mentally it makes you feel like you’re going faster.

Paige Johnson (200 free), Cara Anderson (100 butterfly) and Hunter Smith (100 butterfly) were new district qualifiers for Warren.

The Dragons also had a number of time drops, including Paige Johnson (200 free), Katie Beyer in the 200 IM; Derek Hahn in the 200 IM; Connor Fehlman 200 IM; Jason Bonavita 200 IM; Ellie Hahn in the 50 and 100 freestyles; Derek Hahn in the 100 butterfly;. Seebe Proper in the 100 freestyle; Marcus Bonavita in the 500 freestyle; Trenten Dippold in the 100 freestyle; Proper in the 200 IM; Rylee Napolitan in the 50 free and Carter Anderson in the 500 freestyle.

Both teams had first place finishes in all but two events each.

“Every time we swim (Erie), I think they’re a very classy group,” Beyer said. “They demonstrate good sportsmanship and seem like a very tight-knit group. That’s one thing I told our team, that’s a good lesson to learn from them. Be there for your teammates and show good sportsmanship. I enjoy swimming them.”

The Dragons return to action on Thursday, hosting Mercyhurst Prep.

“The girls won a very close meet last time against them,” Beyer added. “They’ll be ready for us. We’ll have a couple more good days of practice and get right back at it.”
