Early turnovers and cold shooting cost the Eisenhower Lady Knights Tuesday as visiting Saegertown jumped out to a 10-1 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 63-26 win.

“We had a lot of turnovers in the beginning of the game that gave them opportunities,” Eisenhower coach Mike Logue said. “We missed a few early shots that could have very easily kept us in the game.”

The Panthers were able to turn those missed shots into transition points as they built a 31-9 lead through the first half.

“When we missed, we dropped our chin a bit and allowed them to start scoring on their fast break,” Logue said.

Emily Wheeler led the Knights with 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Lydia Giannini had six points, five steals, four rebounds and three blocks while Regan Beaver added three rebounds and two steals.

Saegertown won the junior varsity contest 47-4. Lilee Renninger and Delaney Chase each had two points for the Knights.

The Knights travel down Route 27 Thursday for the season’s first edition of the Backyard Brawl at Youngsville.

Eisenhower is looking forward to the early season matchup with a cross county opponent.

“We’re used to playing Sheffield in the tip-off the last few years,” Logue said. “We enjoy playing Youngsville and Sheffield to guage where we are. It’s always a good game.”
