Holiday hoops, wrestling on tap for county teams

Alanna Hultberg and the Warren Lady Dragons will be in action in Oil City Thursday and Friday.

The holiday season is still in full swing, and a number of county teams will be in action.

One of the teams making the most noise in early season action are the Warren Lady Dragons, and they will be playing in the Oil City Holiday Games today and Friday. Warren (5-0) will play host Oil City today at 6 p.m. today and Karns City out of District 9 at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

The games don’t figure to provide too much resistance for the Lady Dragons, as the two teams are a combined 0-10.

They have already been tested several times, with impressive wins at McDowell and Greenville and at home against Panama (NY) and Erie.

They will begin Region 6 play after the new year, and it is loaded. Villa and Harbor Creek also sport undefeated records, while General McLane is 5-1 and Fort LeBoeuf (3-3) will also factor in.

On the boys side, Youngsville will make the short trip to Sheffield for the Sheffield Sports Boosters Christmas Tournament.

The Eagles will be looking for their second tournament title to close out the 2018 portion of their schedule after winning the Forest Tip-Off in early December.

Sheffield will search for its first victory when they play Kane (1-3) in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. Youngsville and Maplewood (1-4) will play in Game 1 at 6 p.m. The consolation game on Friday will be at 6 p.m. with the championship to follow at 7:30 p.m.

On the girls side, Eisenhower will be playing in the Kane Invitational against North Clarion at 6 p.m. today, followed by Clarion Area against the host Lady Wolves at 7:30 p.m.

Eisenhower enters with a 3-3 record, while North Clarion, which graduated all-starter Tori Obenrader, now playing for Gannon, checks in at 4-1. Kane is 4-2 and Clarion Area 3-3.

The Sheffield girls, meanwhile, will be traveling to Rimersburg to take part in the Union Christmas Tournament.

On the mat, the Warren Dragons will have a busy week, although they will still have to wait until the new year to compete at home.

Today, they will travel to Harbor Creek for a regular match. On Saturday, they will be back in the Erie area for the Tom Carr Duals.

The Sheffield Wolverine matmen will be in New Bethlehem on Saturday for the Redbank Valley Duals.
