Ike girls drop decision to Clarion Area

Eisenhower’s Lydia Giannini was named to the All-Tournament team.

KANE, Pa. – The Eisenhower Lady Knights knew they were going to see very good competition at the Kane Invitational.

And while they’ll leave without a victory, they did gain a lot of valuable experience after falling to Clarion 63-41 on Friday.

“Again, we came out and I thought we played the first quarter very well,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue, whose team held an early 10-8 lead. “But again, we started not to close out on shooters and gave them some open shots.”

A 20-8 second quarter run by Clarion (4-4) helped them assume control of the game.

The Lady Bobcats had four players in double figures, led by KK Girvin’s 14 points.

Lydia Giannini had another big game for the Lady Knights (3-5), scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds while being named to the All-Tournament team.

Emiley Wheeler added 10 points for Eisenhower and Delaney Chase 8. Wheeler also had a double-double with 11 rebounds, while dishing out five assists.

“As young as we are, experience is the big factor,” Logue said. “Having a chance to play against some quality teams in Clarion and North Clarion and being able to watch Kane and how they play…they don’t take plays off. We can learn from this and use it help them motivate their game.”

North Clarion beat Kane 54-46 in the championship game.

The Lady Knights return to action on Wednesday against county rival Sheffield.
