Eagles fall on the road to Cardinals

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Kohl Bernarding poured in 23 points as host Cochranton gave Youngsville a rude awakening in the Region 3 opener for both teams, 73-35 on Tuesday.

Cochranton, which improved to 2-3 after a pair of close losses in a very tough early-season schedule, buried 10 3-pointers in the game, including 3 each from Bernarding, Alex McKay and Zach Snedeker.

The Cardinals led 38-17 at halftime.

Senior Nyko Mercado had a solid game for the Eagles (2-2) with 11 points, while Gage Hendrickson added 10.

“How will we respond? We will find out at practice,” said Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof. “We play again Thursday against another good team (Cambridge Springs). No one is going to feel sorry for us. We have to get up, dust ourselves off and keep working. That’s what winners do.”
