Eagles fall on the road at Oil City
OIL CITY, Pa. – The Youngsville Eagles took a big step up in competition Tuesday, traveling to Oil City and falling by a score of 57-35 to the Oilers.
It was the first setback of the season for the Eagles, who were coming off a tournament championship in the Forest Area Tip-Off.
“Too many turnovers, not enough boards,” said Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof. “We also found out that good team finish out all eight minutes of a quarter. They (Oil City) had an putback with 1.8 seconds left in the first and an and-1 as time expired on the second quarter clock.”
The Oilers (2-1), who are in Region 6 with Warren, got a big effort from senior guard Luke Homer, who drilled 3 triples on his way to a team-high 17 points.
Youngsville’s Gage Hendrickson, coming off an MVP performance at Forest, had 17 points to lead the Eagles (2-1), while Timber Bower added 10.
This game was part of a gauntlet that sees the Eagles play eight of their first nine games on the road, including a trip to Region 3 favorite Cochranton next Tuesday.
“We’re going to get back in the gym and get better,” DeLoof said.
