Dragons fall in opener to Redbank Valley

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of traditional District 10 and District 9 powers met on the mat at Redbank Valley High School Tuesday.

In the end, it was the host Bulldogs who came out with a 48-22 win over the Warren Dragons.

“We had great effort but came up short in a few key matches,” Warren coach Dean Johnson said.

Redbank Valley picked up four wins via pinfall, plus a tech fall and win via injury default to knock off Warren.

For the Dragons, Billy Anderson and Zack Zinger pinned their opponents, while John Fankhouser won a 19-5 major decision.

“John Fankhouser and Zack Zinger looked great, and Billy Anderson picked up his first varsity win,” Johnson said.

The match served as a good early season test for the Dragons who now look forward to the STOWA Tournament this weekend in Salamanca, New York.

“We have many things to work on in order to be prepared for the STOWA Tournament,” Johnson said.
