Bethel edges Sheffield

Jamestown’s Bethel Baptist got off to a hot start and held off a furious Sheffield rally, 66-60 on Thursday.

Jerecho Johnson and Zach Rohlin knocked down 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to secure the win for Bethel.

“Just a great win for our program,” said Bethel coach Rick Rohlin.

Bethel got off to a blistering start in the first quarter, outscoring Sheffield 24-10. Johnson and Jared Younger combined for 16 of those points.

For the game, Johnson had 18 points, Younger 17 and Rohlin 13.

It was the second time in as many games Sheffield got down early, but, just like they did against Austin, they battled back.

Sophomore Tyler Hepinger, who is quickly emerging as one of District 9’s top scorers, buried four 3’s in the first half to keep the Wolverines within striking distance, as they went into the half down 11, 36-25.

Trailing by 10 going into the fourth, Walker Kyler knocked down a pair of 3’s and Hepinger had 7 of his game-high 23 in the quarter to put the pressure on Bethel, which was able to withstand the rally.
