Although the scores might not necessarily show it, Sheffield took a step forward against Ridgway on Monday.

The Lady Wolverines did fall 3-0 – 15-25, 21-25, 13-25, but that didn’t tell the entire story.

“I know the scores might not tell it, but I’m not at all disappointed with the way they played tonight,” said Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay. “They played solid defense. Ridgway really hammered the ball, but we played very well on defense.”

Leading Sheffield were Callen Copley (6 service points, 6 digs), Emily Leichtenberger (5 kills), Megan Johnson (7 assists, 9 digs) Annabel Sheldon (10 digs), Marissa Grubbs (14 digs) and Lynzie Grubbs (4 blocks).

“Where we sort of fell flat was our offense – we only had 12 kills,” Lemay added. “But we only had five missed serves. That’s a huge improvement.”

Sheffield, beginning with this contest, is doing a special fundraiser for Alzheimer’s during all home matches in the month of October, including but not limited to awareness ribbons, tie-dye shirts, donating 50-50 and more.

In the JV match, Ridgway won a pair of close sets, 23-25 and 23-25.

Sheldon had 3 service points and 6 digs, Lily Lauffenberger 7 service points and 3 aces and Lynzie Grubbs 3 kills.

Sheffield hosts Johnsonburg Thursday.
