Eisenhower, Tidioute volleyball set for playoffs

This season has been somewhat of a revelation for the Eisenhower volleyball program.

They took a huge step forward, finishing the regular season with a 7-7 record, and will enter the District 10 Class A volleyball playoffs when they travel to take on Commodore Perry today (7 p.m.).

A strong senior class has led the way, including Cameran Edwards (outside hitter), setter Caroline Hishman, middle Tess Morningstar, outside hitter Kiara Weber and libero Crystal Work.

“They’re the reason we’re here,” Eisenhower coach Scott Olson said last week. “It’s like night and day from when I started. The harder it got for them, the better they got.”

Edwards and Currie Hultman have been hitting machines in the latter part of the regular season, including combining for 38 kills in a win over Tidioute last week.

Maddie Green and Catrina Edwards round out a group that has grown not only in the win-loss column, but in confidence under Olson.

Among the season highlights for the Lady Knights are season sweeps of county rivals Youngsville and Tidioute, as well as Mercyhurst Prep.

The Lady Knights earned a fifth place finish in loaded Region 3, while Commodore Perry comes in with a similar record (8-8), and was the fourth place finisher in Region 1.

The Lady Panthers are a young group, with just one senior in outside hitter Kendra Harper.

They rely on a strong group of outside hitters, including Harper, Sydney Stringert and Tabatha Clevenger.

The winner of tonight’s 7 p.m. contest will get Cochranton on Thursday, the No. 6 ranked team in the state in Class A in the latest Pennsylvania Vollleyball Coaches Association rankings, released Monday.

TIDIOUTE (6-8) at JAMESTOWN (14-3)

The Lady Bulldogs, who came back into the fold in District 10 this season, have a tall task in the first round against a very talented Jamestown squad.

The Lady Muskies are winners of 8-straight, dropping just one set in the process. Their only three losses on the season are to West Middlesex, Wilmington and Girard.

They are led by middle hitter Morgan Popielarcheck, who stands just a shade over 6-feet, as well as Camille McClimans, Madison McElhinny and Farah Messai.

Tidioute comes in having won six contests this season over Forest (twice), Iroquois (twice), Rocky Grove and Venango Catholic.

They are led by Nakiesha Krouse, Shelby Proctor, Brooke Martin, Greysen Fors and Angelina Sabella.

Starting at $3.50/week.
