Dragons, Knights have strong day

Eisenhower’s Sydney Welker (left) is honored during Senior Day festivities before Tuesday’s race against Warren and Harbor Creek. Welker finished 9th, tops among the Lady Knights.

On a beautiful day, albeit on a somewhat damp course, Eisenhower hosted Warren and Harbor Creek on its Senior Day.

Harbor Creek edged the Warren girls 28-29, while Warren and Harbor Creek earned wins over Eisenhower.

For the boys, Harbor Creek finished 2-0, with Warren getting a narrow win over the Knights, 26-31.

“This was our final home meet of the season. Our seniors, Cody Anthony, Brian Fedorchuk, Ian Gillespie, Sydney Welker and Brodie Whitney raced for the last time on our trail. They’re a great group of kids,” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach.

Warren’s Naomi Hahn continued her terrific junior season, winning the girls race in 21:21, followed by Warren teammates Bri Ristau and Kayla Giambrone at 3 and 4.

Harbor Creek secured spots five through eight, however, to edge the Lady Dragons .

Eisenhower’s Sydney Welker, who was one of the athletes honored on Senior Day, had a top 10 finish, taking 9th in 25:51.

For the boys, even without star Ryan Starvaggi, Harbor Creek was able to take the top three spots, led by winner Aiden Weber, who crossed the finish line in 17:26.

Warren’s Nathan Eadie and Eisenhower’s Ethan Kellogg rounded out the top five with times of 18:47 and 19:28 respectively.

“We had to adjust the start and finish because the field was so wet,” noted Beach. “The rest of the course was muddy and slippery.”

Eisenhower’s Ian Gillespie (left) is honored as part of Senior Day fesitivies on Tuesday, as the Knights ran against Warren and Harbor Creek.

Warren’s Graham Carr and Trenten Dippold took the next two spots.

The Warren girls swept the junior high action, with the Huskies edging the Dragons in the boys team scoring.

Warren’s Audrey Smith (11:45) and Grant Heeter (10:17) won each race respectively.
