Sheffield’s Kevin Marfink is swarmed by four Falcon Knights Friday evening in a 47-0 shut out loss at Union/AC Valley.

The Wolverines were only able to put together 88 yards of offense and committed three turnovers as they were shut out, 47-0, Friday night by the Union/AC Valley Falcon Knights.

“I’ll take the heat for the turnovers,” said Sheffield head coach Chris Korbar, whose Wolverines are 0-2. “First-year players, and kids that haven’t played, are learning football as we go. That’s where we’re stuck at, and that’s the conundrum that we’re going to deal with all year long until they get the experience under their belts.”

Union/AC Valley running back Caden Rainey was the first to capitalize on a Wolverine turnover following an interception on Sheffield’s second play of the game. Rainey would go on to rush for 88 yards on just six carries, scoring twice on the ground. He tacked on another touchdown through the air with 34 yards receiving on two grabs.

Despite the Falcon Knights giving up 90 yards in penalties, Sheffield was unable to get any momentum with the lone highlight coming in the third quarter when new quarterback Steve Lojewski hit Anthony Rivera for a 39-yard gain. However, four plays later, a tipped pass was intercepted by Union/AC Valley’s Brady Cullen, seemingly ending the Wolverines’ scoring opportunity.

Lojewski went 9-of-20 for 73 yards with two picks, while the running game only garnered 15 yards.

“They’re still working towards that family goal,” said Korbar. “I got to go back to the drawing board in some essence. A lot of injuries, a lot of different things. Guys just not talking and communicating.”

Sheffield will travel to Coudersport next Friday.
