WCCS picks up first win of young season

SENECA, Pa. – The Warren County Christian School volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season Friday night, topping Christian Life Academy in there sets, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-11.

It was a total team effort for the Lady Lions, who got strong efforts from Rachel Beatty (17 service points, 4 aces, 3 assists,1 dig), McKenna Phelps (19 service points, 3 aces, 4 kills, 3 digs), Emma Marino (19 service points, 3 aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs), Krystal Kinney (5 service points, 3 aces, 2 digs), Gwen Reed (1 service point, 6 assists, 3 digs, 3 aces) and Kiara Baker (2 service points, 2 aces, 2 kills)

“CLA is a younger team but a good varsity team – scrappy and well-coached,” said WCCS coach Mark Brenner. “I was excited to see us at the match wore on, we were able to bring their scores down each set. It was nice to see us get stronger as the match progressed.”

The JV team was also victorious, winning in two sets, 25-20, 25-12.

Leading the way were Reed (11 service points, 4 aces, 1 kill, 4 assists, 1 dig), Kinney (5 service points, 2 aces, 1 kill), Baker (7 service points, 4 aces, 3 kills, 1 block, 3 digs) Jael Brenner (4 service points ,1 ace, 1 dig) , Emily Cox (3 service points, 1 ace, 1 assist, 2 digs) and Gracia Clark (3 digs).
