Knights grab road win at Kane

KANE, Pa. – Eisenhower scored three first half goals and the defense made them stand up in the second half as the Lady Knights picked up a 3-0 win at Kane Wednesday.

Caroline Smelko, Lydia Giannini and Leah Peterson had the tallies, with Giannini picking up the game’s only assist. Faith Johnson and Kayla Greene split time in net and combined for a six-save shutout.

Smelko got things started with an unassisted tally at 8:01.

Giannini doubled the lead at 23:32, then found Peterson on a crossing pass for the third goal just a minute later.

Despite not scoring again, the Lady Knights continued to pressure the Wolves’ net, forcing the keeper to make 15 saves, not including the three that went in.

Still working her way back from injury, Johnson played the first 3/4 of the game in net before being relieved by Greene midway through the second half. The Lady Knights had been turning to Katie Elmquist to relieve Johnson in net, but she suffered an injury of her own and was unable to play.

Johnson is hoping to be able to play a full game for the Lady Knights Saturday as Eisenhower welcomes Mercer to the pitch in a rematch of their epic District 10 quarterfinal game.

Johnson was stellar late in that game, a 2-1 Eisenhower win. The Mustangs peppered the keeper with shot after shot, but couldn’t get anything past.

The rematch should provide a good early season test for both teams, the start is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
