Battling the Best: Dragon girls fall to defending state champs Villa
The Warren Dragons girls tennis team played its first home match of the season, falling to Villa Maria 5-0 at Betts Park on Monday.
At first singles, Gracie Wood lost a tough match to Sarah DeMarco 6-2, 6-3. At second singles, Emily Grimm fought hard, but came up short against Leah Turk by a score of 6-1, 6-2. At third singles, Taylor Lester played well, but was defeated by Rachel Bowen 6-4, 6-0.
“I was pleased with the way our girls played today,” said head coach Jon Meyer. “Villa Maria is the defending state champions. We knew this would be a difficult match, but our girls fought hard.”
At first doubles, Ceci Citro and Maddie Rodgers lost to Lauren Hardner and Ryleigh Valone 6-2, 6-0. At second doubles, Kaity McCracken and Meg McGuinness came up short against Kayla Friedman and Molly Wassmann 6-0, 6-4.
