Warren products have big tournament for Northeast Twins

MASNFIELD, Pa. – Warren’s Derek Knapp and Colby Johnson, playing for the Northeast Twins 18U team, competed this weekend at the Mansfield University 19U tournament.

The duo helped lead the Twins to the tournament title, as they went a perfect 5-0.

The Twins romped in the championship game, beating the NE Twins 17U team 22-7. Knapp was the winning pitcher, while Frank Wayman (Horseheads, N.Y.) had 2 home runs and Johnson and Dan Manion (Bradford) had multiple hits.

During the tournament, Knapp played shortstop and pitched and Johnson played right field, second base and catcher. In five games, Knapp had 5 hits, 3 walks, 5 runs scored and 5 RBI. Johnson had 7 hits, a double, 4 walks, 5 runs scored and 5 RBI. Knapp and Johnson had several defensive plays to help their team.

In game one, the Twins played Southern Tier Stingers winning 17-9. St. Marys’ Tim Beimel homered and Johnson had several hits.

In the second game, the Twins squared off with Stealing Home, winning 12-7. Frank Wayman (Horseheads, N.Y.) had a home run and drove in five runs.

Game 3 saw the Twins win 9-1. Wayman once again went deep and Knapp had multiple hits. Tim Beimel was the winning pitcher.

In Game 4 the Twins win 10-7. Beimel homered in the game and Dan Manion (Bradford) was the winning pitcher.

They are off next weekend and travel to Lock Haven the following weekend.

Lance Baldensperger, playing for the Northeast Twins 17U team. The team was 4-1 playing teams from Baltimore, New York and Mansfield. They placed second in the tournament. Baldensperger was 4-for-12 with a double, triple,3 walks, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI
