Post 135 knocks off Union City in finale

UNION CITY – Post 135 closed out its regular season Senior Legion schedule with an 8-2 win at Union City Tuesday.

Braidy Blair, possibly playing in his final Legion game, pitched a complete game for the win. He gave up just two runs, both earned, on three hits and two walks and struck out seven. Blair will age out of the league after this season and the team is unsure if it will be able to participate in the postseason due to scheduling conflicts.

Union City got on the board quickly in the first as the first two batters singled and doubled, respectively, to put the home team ahead 1-0.

Blair singled to start the second and back-to-back walks from Chris White and Ryan Arnold loaded the bases. With one out, Bryce Blair drew a walk to score Braidy. Derek Knapp hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs came in to give Post a 3-1 lead.

Union City got one back in the third. With two away, one batter reached and another was hit by a pitch to put runners on. The first batter came home on a wild pitch to close the gap to 3-2.

Post answered right back in the fourth. Bryce Blair was hit by a pitch, and, with one out, Owen Balas singled. Adam Irwin followed with the team’s only extra base hit of the game, a 2-run double to put Post up 5-2.

Irwin singled with one out in the sixth and stole second. Lance Baldensperger reached on an error, and Irwin came around to score on the play. Braidy Blair singled in Baldensperger. After White drew a walk, Arnold reached on an error and Brady Blair came home on the play to make it 8-2.

If Post is able to compete in the Region 8 tournament, play would begin July 20. Date, time and opponent to be determined.
