Loomis, Swanson help lead Twins to tourney title

The Northeast Twins captured the Iron and Oil Tournament this weekend.

The Northeast Twins 15U team, featuring Warren’s Hunter Loomis and James Swanson, won the Iron and Oil Tournament at St. Bonaventure and Pitt-Bradford last weekend.

In the Twins tournament-opening 11-7 win over Ithaca, Swanson played center and was a perfect 3-3 from the plate with a double and two runs scored. Loomis was 0-3, but had a RBI.

A move to left in game two did nothing to cool Swanson’s bat. He was 2-2 with a walk and two runs scored in the Twins 11-1 victory against the Baldwinsville Swarm. Loomis caught and was 1-2 with a walk, RBI and run scored.

While Swanson got a breather in the Twins 10-0 win against the Wellsboro Hustle, Loomis played a strong third base. He had four put outs and went 2-3 with a double and RBI.

Loomis got his only start on the mound in the semifinals against Ithaca. He allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings with five strikeouts in the 7-6 victory.

He helped his own cause by going 2-3 with a triple and three RBI. Swanson was the DH and remained perfect for the tournament as he was 2-2.

The Twins squared off against the Altoona Curve, jr in the finals. While the Curve spoiled Swanson’s bid to bat 1.000 for the tournament (0-1), his two walks and pair of runs scored helped lead the team to a 5-1 victory.

Loomis moved from pitcher to catcher for the finale and twice caught runners stealing. He was 2-2 at the dish with a walk and drove in two runs.
