Warren tennis sweeps doubleheader from Rocky Grove

Alex Fincher and the Dragons rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Rocky Grove on Wednesday.

The Warren Dragons boys tennis team picked up their third and fourth wins of the season with duel 5-0 decisions over Rocky Grove at Betts Park on Wednesday. Rocky Grove forfeited both first and second singles matches. At third singles, Alex Fincher defeated Noah Rodgers 8-0 and 8-0.

“The weather has been lousy this season,” said head coach Jon Meyer. “Since we had a somewhat decent day today, we decided to play both of our matches against Rocky Grove today. Alex played very well, even though it was a bit cold out.”

At first doubles, Caleb Ei and Zach Fincher defeated Kendall Straub and Jayden Haggerty 8-1 and 8-0. At second doubles, Cade Poston and Bryce McCracken defeated Shannon Brisa and Forest Hensley 8-0 and 8-0.

“Both teams played very well today,” said assistant coach Colin Kenney. “They were efficient and played got the job done quickly.”

In exhibition play, Owen Peterson and Paul Cappello defeated Michael Shingler and James Lawson 8-4. Andy Beyer and Thomas Lucks defeated Jacob Tichenor and Stephen Ashbaugh 8-5. A.J. Seyler and Eli Korb defeated Seth Conarro and Elliott Neal 8-4. Zach Fincher defeated Tyler Thrift 8-3 and Nick Lindsay and Owen Peterson defeated James Lawson and Gareth Smith 8-3.

The Dragons are 4-0 on the season, and 2-0 in region play.
