Ike boys, girls earn wins over UC

UNION CITY – Eisenhower’s boys and girls track teams traveled to Union City for a tri-meet with the Bears and Corry Beavers and came away with an even split.

The Knights swept the Bears, but were swept by Corry. Defeating Union City is more important in the grand scheme as they are a region opponent.

The girls won 97.66 to 52.33 and were defeated 84-65, while the boys won 96-53 and dropped a 104.5-45.5 decision.

“It was a good meet. Cold, but a good meet,” Eisenhower girls coach Darlene Beach said.

On the girls side, Terry Lee Talasky raced away with wins in the 100, 200 and 400, while Delaney Nizzi swept the 100 and 300 hurdles. Both were part of the winning 4×400 relay team along with Caroline Smelko and Aleea Giese. Cameran Edwards was the only other individual winner, taking first in the triple jump.

For the boys, Jonah Samuelson won both the 110 and 300 hurdles and Jared Martone took top honor in the long and triple jumps, while Kelly Glotz won the 100. Glotz and Samuelson joined with Nate Holt and Riley West to win the 4×100 relay.

“We knew that (Union City) would be tough in the distance,” Beach said. “But I thought our distance kids held their own. The sprinters and field events kids really came through in those areas too.”

Eisenhower will take part in the Kane Invitational Saturday.
