Ike’s Jaquay in top 8, Head eliminated at states
Only one remains.
Eisenhower’s Logan Jaquay went 2-1 at the PIAA 2A State Wrestling tournament Friday, and in doing so kept his season alive and assured himself of a place on the podium when the tournament concludes.
Jaquay will take on Biglerville’s Blake Showers in the seventh place match this afternoon.
He opened competition Friday with a 9-4 decision over McGuffey’s Nathan Yagle in the second round of the consolation bracket. Jaquay entered his third round match against Joey Fischer needing one more win to guarantee a medal. He got that win with a second period pin of the South Park freshman and is now one of the final eight wrestlers heading into today’s competition.
In the evening matches, Jaquay dropped a heartbreaking 12-11 decision to Saint Joseph’s Academy’s Ammon Ohl to drop into the seventh place match. Showers lost a 9-4 decision to Benton’s Gable Strickland (who beat Jaquay 8-1 in the first round).
Jaquay’s Knight teammate, senior Spencer Head, saw his outstanding high school career come to a close Friday.
After starting the day with a third period pin over Muncy’s Noah Gush in the second round of the consolation bracket, Head went into his third round match against Southern Columbia’s Cade Linn needing a win to extend both his career and his season.
Head suffered a tough 4-2 decision loss, ending his career just shy of the medal stand. Still, Head has had an exemplary career that includes more than 100 victories, a section title and top three finishes at both districts and regions.
Jaquay’s round of matches will begin at 2 p.m. today and can be followed live at arena.flowrestling.org.
