WCCS topples Jamestown Bethel
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Jared Younger’s unusual triple-double led Warren County Christian School to a 55-36 win at Jamestown Bethel Christian Academy Friday.
Younger had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals on the night. He scored 17 of his 26 points in the first half.
“We got a great game from Jared Younger,” WCCS coach Tom Jones said. “The rebounding was pretty critical for us (due to the size mismatch).”
The Lions came out applying pressure from the start to try to take away Jamestown’s size advantage. The game plan worked to perfection as WCCS raced out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter.
“We played them once before and they’re a very, very big team,” Jones said. “Our objective was to pressure them full court, make them throw long passes and use our speed to negate their height. They couldn’t handle our pressure.”
Ethan Kirr nearly had a double-double himself, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Twelve of his 14 points came from beyond the three point line.
“Those were big threes,” Jones said. “It opens things for us when we can make it out on the perimeter.”
The Lions will travel to Oil City to take on Faith Christian Academy Tuesday.
