Slow start dooms Dragons against Huskies

HARBORCREEK – A poor first half doomed the Warren Dragons as they fell to Harbor Creek 59-41 in a Region 6 road game on Tuesday.

The Dragons (5-7 overall, 2-2 Region 6) struggled offensively and allowed the Huskies’ Peyton Ennis to get hot early in the contest. Ennis scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the first half to lead his team to a 35-14 advantage.

“Ennis dominated us offensively and Harbor Creek out-hustled us,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “I warned them if we didn’t give effort we would be in trouble, and 16 minutes doesn’t get in done on the road in our region.”

The Dragons came out and played a strong third quarter, outscoring the Huskies 20-10 to get back within 11, 45-34, with Grffin Suppa scoring six of his 10 points in the run.

“We played much better in the second half but didn’t play a smart offensive game,” Berdine said. “Both our decision making needs and our offensive execution need to get better.”

Caleb Ei scored a game-high 11 points for the Dragons, while Aidan Morrison had seven points, four steals and a block. Suppa and Ei both dished out three assists.

The Dragons will look to get back on track in their second Region 6 road game of the week on Thursday at Corry.
