KANE – Sheffield ran into a buzz saw, facing AML power Kane on Tuesday evening, falling 67-19, dropping the Lady Wolverines to 1-9 (0-2 AML) on the season.

“We didn’t recover well in transition early, and things spiraled out of control from there,” said Sheffield coach Brandon Troutman, “they pretty much ran us off the floor in the first quarter.”

Sheffield was able to gain some ball control in spurts throughout the remainder of the game, but wasn’t able to execute. “We did a better job at buckling down and trying to play within ourselves, but overall we were pretty frantic offensively and it hurt,” Troutman noted.

The Lady Wolverines were able to get all their players some floor time tonight, as all 11 girls in the book saw a decent amount of floor time.

“It’s nice to get our younger kids a little varsity experience when the situations allow. Tonight we were basically forced into it a with some foul trouble early on. As the game progressed, with the score being as it was, we subbed a little more frequently,” Troutman added, “but we’re in a situation where we’re continuing to lay a foundation that these seniors have worked so dang hard for the last two plus years. Take wins and losses out of it for a minute, and just looking at the dedication, the change in culture, the leadership, it’s a group of kids that have done a lot for this program, a group I’m very proud of and will always have a place in my heart for,” Troutman stated.

Sheffield’s JV squad fell 43-5.

Sheffield returns to action Friday, hosting DuBois Central Catholic, then will hit the road for three straight, beginning Saturday with a non-league game at Austin.
