Lions roll to win over Bethel

Warren County Christian School’s Jared Younger goes up for a shot during Tuesday’s game against Jamestown Bethel. Younger scored 17 points in the Lions’ victory.

Warren County Christian School knew it would face a severe size mismatch against Jamestown Bethel Tuesday.

Jamestown has three players standing 6 foot, 3 inches or taller and WCCS just, doesn’t.

Undeterred, the Lions had a gameplan and executed it to perfection, coming away with a 52-29 win.

“This was by far our best game we’ve played all season,” WCCS coach Tom Jones said. “They’re a big team. Our game plan was to make those big guys play the whole court.”

WCCS moved the ball around the perimeter, forcing Jamestown to clear the paint and guard more of the floor. Josh Jones would then drive to the lane and either take the layup, or kick it back outside if a defender came over.

On the other end, the Lions played a press defense and forced the frontcourt guys to take over most of the ball handling.

“We upped the tempo and pressured a lot,” Jones said. “We tried to make those big guys move the ball up court, keep them out of the paint and it worked.”

Jared Younger led a trio of Lions in double figures with 17 points. Jones added 14 and Ethan Kerr had 12.

WCCS travels to Christian Life Academy Thursday.
