Lady Lions top Erie Bethel

RACHEL BRENNER

Warren County Christian Schools boys and girls basketball teams played host to Erie Bethel in a double header Tuesday.

The girls came away with a dominating 32-14 win, while the boys suffered a tough 39-31 setback.

“The girls were short-handed and went in with only five players tonight,” WCCS coach Tom Jones said. “Each one did an outstanding job.

Rachel Brenner stepped up offensively and essentially bested Erie Bethel by herself, scoring 15 points.

“Brenner just played a great, solid game,” Jones said.

Becca Erdman led the defensive effort with seven steals, while Kiara Baker cleaned up the glass with nine rebounds to go along with her 10 points.

“Baker put up some offensive rebounds for us and had a breakout game for us scoring,” Jones said. “Erdman played outstanding defense.”

The boys played a tough Erie Bethel team close all game, but couldn’t quite overtake their opponents.

“The game went back and forth,” Jones said. “We captured the lead a little bit in the third. We just couldn’t make up the difference down the stretch.”

Jones said the Lions had some “lapses” in the second and third quarters that led to easy buckets for Erie.

“We gave up some easy buckets and had some careless turnovers,” Jones said. “Erie Bethel is the team to beat in our league. They are well-coached, and we were competitive the whole game.”

Jared Younger had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Ethan Kirr had 12 points and five rebounds.
