Lady Knights fall at Cochranton

COCHRANTON – After leading at points in the first half, Eisenhower’s girls basketball team cooled significantly in the second half allowing Cochranton to pull away for a 51-25 Region 3 win Thursday.

The Knights (4-9, 2-5 Region 3) managed only six points in the second half.

“In the second half we came out and missed a couple shots, (Jaidan) Martinec got hot and we just couldn’t get back into the swing of things,” Eisenhower coach Mike Logue said.

Martinec scored 15 of her game-high 16 points in the second half.

Eisenhower was able to get solid post play from the combination of Emily Wheeler and Lydia Giannini in the first half. Wheeler had all of her 12 points on field goals, while Giannini scored six of her eight points from the free throw line.

“Lydia was just a little quicker than their post player and was able to get the corner on her,” Logue said. “She didn’t finish, but she got to the foul line.”

The Cardinals (6-7, 3-3) started double teaming in the paint in the second half and the Knights couldn’t get the ball kicked back to the guards.

“We need to do a better job of going inside out when they double,” Logue said.

Wheeler and Giannini were also the teams leading rebounders with five each.

Kayla Freyermuth was the only other Cardinal in double figures with 12 points.

Eisenhower travels to Maplewood Monday.
