GUYS MILLS – The Eisenhower Knights are red-hot.

Behind 21 points from newly-minted 1,000-point scorer Jaydon Hayes, the Knights outscored Maplewood 41-18 in the second half en route to a 71-54 Region 3 road win over Maplewood on Saturday.

The victory, the third-straight for the Knights (7-6 overall, 5-2 Region 3) moved them into sole possession of second place behind Cambridge Springs.

The Tigers () got out of the gates quickly, as Andy Wooley, who scored a team-high 14 points, connected on a pair of early 3s to stake his team to an early 21-19 lead.

Kyle Mehok scored six points in the second, with the lead swelling to 36-30 at halftime.

That was short-lived, however, as the Knights, who have been shooting the ball very well during their hot streak, did so again in the second half.

Cyrus Hazeltine and Zack Fincher knocked down key 3s in the third quarter to help put the Knights up 47-45.

Eisenhower made a killing at the free throw line in the fourth quarter with the Tigers forced to foul. They scored 14 points from the charity stripe in the final eight minutes, closing the game on a 24-9 surge.

Hazeltine finished with 15 points, while Nick Smelko was also in double figures with 11.

The Knights have a huge home date on Tuesday with the aforementioned Cambridge Springs Blue Devils, with the varsity contest to follow 15 minutes after the 6 p.m. JV tilt.
