Bulldogs power their way to victory

MEADVILLE – Julian Gillenwater scored a season-high 20 points, leading Tidioute Charter to a 59-46 road win over Calvary Baptist on Monday.

“He’s our point guard and he ran the offense real well,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman. “The guys were getting the ball back to him and he was knocking down open shots.”

It was a game that Tidioute led by just three, 43-40, going in the fourth quarter, but a strong finish led to a comfortable margin of victory.

“We made foul shots and ran the offense as well as we’ve ran it all year,” noted Cotterman.

The Bulldogs also got strong games from Patrick Shields, who had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds as well as three blocks, and also Jared Veasey, who was once again in double figures with 13 points. Gillenwater had six steals to go along with his 20 points and Ryan Williams chipped in with 10 points and four assists.

Cotterman also noted the strong defensive effort of Jakob Magda.

“I thought Magda played as good of defense as I could expect out of a kid,” he said. “It was a good team effort.”

Tidioute returns to action on Thursday at one of District 9’s top teams in North Clarion.
