A look around the college ranks

As the calendar turns to 2018, it’s time to check in and see how some of our local products are doing in the collegiate ranks this winter.

D.J. Hahn (Cal U. Women’s Basketball)

The Warren Area High School product has come into her own as a sophomore, starting all 13 games for the 12-1 Vulcans, who are ranked 10th in the latest Division II national poll. She is third on the team in scoring at 10.0 ppg., leads the team in three-pointers made and is averaging 4.6 rebounds per contest. In a 71-53 win over Gannon on Wednesday, she scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range to go with three rebounds and an assist.

D.J. Fehlman (Lock Haven wrestling)

The former Warren standout is having a strong season to date for LHU, currently with a 15-9 record at the 133-pound weight class. Most recently he competed at the prestigious Southern Scuffle, where Lock Haven finished 10th out of 24 schools, with Penn State winning the team title. He beat Duke’s Josh Copeland via pin (4:14) in the opening round, before losing a 12-9 decision to Rico Montoya of Northern Colorado and a 5-3 decision to Rudy Yates of Northern Iowa. Lock Haven returns to action Jan. 12 at the Virginia Duals.

Jen Isenberg

(Pitt-Bradford Women’s Basketball)

After dealing with several knee injuries, the former Sheffield standout is shining for the Panthers. She is tied for third on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 per contest. She had a strong game in a 77-73 loss to Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday, notching a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Evan Suppa (Oberlin Men’s Basketball)

In a 111-104 win over Muskingum on Dec. 30, Suppa played 19 minutes, scoring five points on 2-of-3 shooting, while also notching a rebound and an assist. It’s part of an increased role recently for the sophomore and WAHS graduate.

Kristen Williams

(Penn State-DuBois Women’s Basketball)

In the Lions’ most recent win (87-60) against Butler Community College on Dec. 19, Williams, an Eisenhower graduate, scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting to go along with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Williams has been a mainstay in the starting lineup for PSU-D, which, after a long layoff, returns to action on Saturday, hosting Pitt-Titusville.
