Warren, Eisenhower girls soccer aim for semifinal success

It’s been over a week since the Warren girls soccer team took the field, but they will get that chance today when they play Meadville in the District 10 Class 3A semifinal (5:30 p.m., Prep-Villa Events Center).

The explosive Lady Dragons (13-5), who are one of just four teams in the state to score 100-plus goals according to MaxPreps, lost to Meadville way back in their season-opener, but have grown tremendously in the two months since.

Junior Mackenzie Bickling leads that explosive offense with 25 goals and 27 assists.

The assists number is tops in the state and 10th nationally, while the goals are good for seventh in the state and 45th nationally, also per MaxPreps.

Bickling is one piece in what is a very impressive offensive machine.

Kyra Wotorson has turned in a fantastic freshman season with 20 goals, while senior Lexie Grubbs has 16 and another freshman, Kyleigh Wilson, checks in at 10. MJ Fadale and Jessica Susz each have seven goals.

The rest of the midfield as well as the defense has been much improved from last season, with the likes of Kelsey Fadale, Emily Egger, Brooklyn Neureiter, Susz and Taryn Phillips, among others.

In net, Abby Arnold has been stellar.

Coach Jeremy Bickling has targeted playoff success as the next step for a program that has come along way with three-straight Region 5 championships.

The winner will face Villa, which received a bye, in the championship game on Wednesday.

Warren won’t be the only county team playing at the Prep-Villa Events Center today, as following their game, the Eisenhower girls will take on Seneca in the 1A semifinals.

It was an exciting 2-1 win over Mercer that got Ike into this position, while the Lady Bobcats routed Kennedy Catholic.

Seneca and Eisenhower met twice this season, splitting the season series.

The winner will face the Wilmington-Greenville winner in the championship game on Wednesday.

Starting at $4.00/week.
