Runners ready for District 10 championships

Runners from Warren, Eisenhower and Youngsville, along with the rest of District 10 gather at Sharon’s Buhl Park today for the D-10 cross country championships.
The Warren girls finished second as a team last year in Class 2A, qualifying for the state meet, and will look to do so again.
Sophomore Naomi Hahn leads the way after a strong regular season. She is coming off a fourth place finish as a freshman and will look to better that today.
Fellow sophomore Bri Ristau also had an excellent regular season and finished 15th as a freshman, while junior Kayla Giambrone, senior Leah Drake and junior Iris Roberts will look to lead the Lady Dragons to another strong finish.
The top competition includes Villa’s Grace Brown, General McLane’s Devyn Bale and Hickory’s Dannah Javens.
In Class 1A girls, Eisenhower junior Sydney Welker and sophomore Lily Fedorchuk led the Lady Knights all season and will look to contend today after finishing 40th and 42nd respectively a season ago.
Lakeview, Union City and Fairview look to be the top team contenders, with Union City’s Abby Anaya and Allie VanDee and Lakeview’s Claire Oliver among the top contenders.
On the 2A boys side, Warren senior Troy Shattuck was the Dragons’ top runner all season long, and he will look to improve upon a 35th place finish as a junior.
Harbor Creek, General McLane and Grove City figure to be the top team contenders, with Harbor Creek’s Ryan Starvaggi and Aiden Weber, as well as General McLane’s Erik Andrzejewski expected to challenge for first.
There’s a strong contingent of runners for the 1A boys that includes Youngsville’s Aaron Morris, Mik Fehlman and Braden Wilson, as well as Eisenhower’s Tyler Burnell, Ethan Kellogg, Hunter Peterson and Nathaniel Hoffman. Morris was the top finisher among the group last year, finishing 42nd.
Seneca, West Middlesex, Mercyhurst Prep and North East will look to compete for the team title.
