Warren, Youngsville cross country teams compete in region meets

On an unseasonably warm September afternoon, the Warren girls cross country team picked up a pair of wins – 24-33 against Corry and 26-30 versus North East.
Naomi Hahn’s second place finish led the way (22:30), while Kayla Giambrone finished fourth, Bri Ristau sixth and Leah Drake seventh to lead the Lady Dragons to the wins.
“Today’s meet was a hot one, but we saw a lot of good races,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “Our girls team coming away with two wins was a huge positive today as they are back to a full squad.”
North East and Corry comprise to of the strong teams in District 10, and the defeated the Dragons by scores of 16-46 and 18-43.
Troy Shattuck led the Dragons with a sixth-place finish (19:10), while Trenton Dippold finished 10th.

“Our boys lost to two good teams, but saw some big individual improvements,” noted Dustin. “Some of our newer boys are figuring out their racing strategy. We are looking forward to the Sharpsville invite this weekend.”

Youngsville’s cross country team took on a pair of opponents during an abnormally hot late-September day Tuesday.
The Eagles times rose with the temperature as they fell to Union City 44-17 and came up short against Fort LeBoeuf 36-23.
“It was a hot day for a cross country race,” Youngsville coach Adam Green said. “The times were a little off, but we ran a good race. It was just a little warm today.”
Aaron Morris’ 18:57 was good for sixth on the day and paced the Eagles. Mik Fehlman finished ninth with 19:27.
Aliviah Messinger was the lone Lady Eagle runner. She finished 19th with 26:34.
