BROCKWAY – Sheffield used a strong serving game to gain a road sweep of Brockway, 25-14, 25-9 and 25-16.

Mya Grubbs led the way from the service line with 11 service points and 17 assists. Callen Copely added 13 service points and Lexi Lyon had 10 service points to go along with seven kills and six blocks.

“For us, (being successful) is serving really well and receiving their serves,” Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay said.

The Wolverines are becoming intimately familiar with the Raiders as they competed in Brockway’s tournament over the weekend and will host the Raiders in a match next week. Lemay said her team is happy their four-game road trip is coming to an end.

“We’re at Elk County (Catholic) tomorrow night, then we get to come home next week,” she said.

JV SHEFFIELD 2, BROCKWAY 0

Sheffield’s strong serving was on display in the junior varsity match as well as Selena Foster (14 service points, 10 aces) and Megan Johnson (nine service points, six aces) led the Wolverines to a 25-15 and 25-12 win.

CORRY 3, WARREN 0

CORRY – Defending state champion Corry beat Warren in three sets on Monday – 25-15, 25-13, 25-16.

Leading the Dragons were Lydia Latimer (5 kills 14 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace), Ellie Lobdell (7 kills, 11 digs), Lex Nyquist (16 assists 10 digs), Jordan Sitler (4 kills), Kelsey Dilks (5 digs), Celia Chase (1 kill 8 digs, 1 ace) and Grace Wortman (1 kill 1 ace).

“Corry is obviously a very good team, we got a taste of where we need to be to get to the next level,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “We started out playing well against them but eventually their relentless pressure caught up to us. You can’t afford to make mistakes against them because they make you pay for it. But we definitely played some nice high level points against them so the challenge going forward is to sustain that for a whole match against the toughest teams.”

The JV team also lost, 12-25, 25-20, 8-15. Olivia English (6 kills 4 digs 3 aces), Isabella Shingler (6 assists, 4 digs) and Hannah shattuck (5 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces).

WCCS 3, TIDIOUTE 0

In a matchup of county teams, Warren County Christian School topped Tidioute Charter in three sets – 25-14, 24-19, 25-19.

Lydia Cox (4 kills, 3 service points, 2 digs), Becca Erdman (1 service point, 14 assists, 3 digs), McKenna Phelps (7 service points 5 kills, 2 blocks), Rachel Brenner (16 service points, 10 aces,5 digs), Rachel Beatty (4 service points, 11 assists, 2 aces,1 kill, 1 dig) and Kiara Baker (8 service points, 7 kills, 3 digs, 1 block, 1 ace) led the Lady Lions.

Leading Tidioute were Greysen Fors (2 aces, 7 assists), Brooke Martin (5 kills), Shelby Proctor (2 aces, 1 kill, 5 digs), Nakiesha Krouse (1 block, 3 kills) and Jenna Hunt (2 kills, 1 block).

“This was a good win,” said WCCS coach Mark Brenner. “Rachel Brenner really had her jump serve working.”

WCCS also won the JV game, 13-25, 25-15, 15-11.

Emily Cox (11 service points, 4 aces), Rachel Beatty (6 service points, 4 aces, 2 kills, 2 assists, 1 dig), McKenna Phelps (5 service points, 2 aces, 4 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs), Gracia Clark (1 service point, 1 kill, 3 digs), Jael Brenner (2 service points, 1 ace) and Kiara Baker (4 service points, 1 ace, 2 kills, 1 assist, 1 block, 3 digs) paced the winners.

Brooke Martin (1 ace), Kelsey Nuttal (1 ace), Shelby Proctor (2 aces, 3 kills) and Jenna Hunt (3 aces) led Tidioute.

“Emily Cox really came through,” Brenner said. “She served 10 times in a row when it really counted in that second set. That’s how we came back after losing the first.”
