Post 135 tops Youngsville for third win of the week

Post 135’s Dominick Funari pitches during his team’s 6-0 win over Youngsville Wednesday at Old Legion Field. Funari struck out seven and allowed four hits in a complete game.

It’s been a pretty good week for Post 135.

Behind a complete game shutout from Dominick Funari and three runs batted in from Drake Gens, Post 135 won its third game in two days with a 6-0 victory over Youngsville Wednesday at Old Legion Field.

The hosts got all the offense they would need in the bottom of the first inning, when Derek Knapp drew a leadoff walk and stole two bases to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Owen Balas.

Youngsville threatened in each of the first three innings, but Funari and the Post 135 defense worked out of trouble to keep the score at 1-0. Gens dropped a bloop single into shallow right field in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead to two runs.

The game remained close until Post 135 broke things open in the bottom of the sixth. Lance Baldensperger brought in one run with an RBI single and Gens knocked in two more before scoring on a liner off the bat of Adam Irwin.

Youngsville had leadoff hits in the first and second innings, loaded the bases with two outs in the third, and had a runner thrown out at the plate in the top of the fifth. In the seventh, the visitors put two runners on base with one down before Post 135 third baseman Adam Munksgard came through with a game-ending double play.

Gens finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and one run scored while Jamo Douvlos went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Funari struck out seven batters in seven innings while limiting Youngsville to four hits — Levi Wright doubled and three others added singles. Sam Hoover went the distance on the mound for Youngsville.

Post 135 is back in action Monday against Blair and Youngsville hosts Corry Northwest Savings Bank the same day.
