Warren grad Wilson named PSAC West Freshman of the Year

LOCK HAVEN – Warren Area High School graduate Paige Wilson was named PSAC West Freshman of the Year on Monday.

Wilson accomplished the feat despite missing the last 12 games of the regular season and the league tournament due to injury. She posted a .397 average (31-for-78) with nine RBI and seven runs scored while starting 24-consecutive games at third base to open the year. The program has now featured the division’s top rookie seven times in the last eight seasons, including Price in 2015.

Junior shortstop Emily Price, from Warren, Ohio was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year in her third year as the starting shortstop. She also was an All-PSAC West First-Team selection for a consecutive season after being a second-team honoree as a freshman. Price led the 17-team league with a .520 on-base percentage in her first year as the leadoff hitter and also ranked fourth in the PSAC with a .429 batting average (54-for-126) and 14 doubles. The Ohio native paced the team with 25 RBI, 30 runs scored and a .611 slugging percentage. In divisional play this year, Price hit a .500 clip (32-for-64) with three homers, 17 RBI and 16 runs scored. The Vulcans have now boasted the PSAC West Athlete of the Year five times in the last eight years with the last being catcher Natalie Wideman in 2014.

In addition, senior designated player Megan Jahoda (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) was a repeat honoree on the All-PSAC West First-Team. She finished her career as a three-time All-PSAC West First-Team selection at three different positions, as she earned the honor at utility/non-pitcher as a freshman and catcher last season. Jahoda ranked third on the team with a .347 batting average (34-for-98), which was over 50 points higher than her previous career high, and tied for second on the team with 21 RBI.
